BAD!

What do you mean by download automatically? Like... when the page loads, a dialog will come up being like "You are about to download somefile.zip - you can Open from current location or Save"? Or is it just going to go ahead and put it on their computer without them giving it permission to?

The main reason there's so many who hate Internet Explorer is because it allows ActiveX controls to do such things (downloading and/or installing programs without the user ever knowing anything was going on). If that's your intent, you probably won't find help here.

If your intent was the first thing I said, you don't even need ActiveX, just a body onLoad thing or a JavaScript:

Code:
<html><br /><body onLoad="self.location = 'file.zip';"><br />Downloading file... please wait...<br /></body><br /></html>

As I just said.... I don't think many people here are real big fans of ActiveX controls downloading stuff to their harddrives, they'd rather get a dialog asking whether or not they want to save the file.

Just do that body onLoad thing, that way as soon as your page is loaded, a thing will pop up to download a file.

So asking around here for ActiveX controls to download something to your harddrive without prompting first, you'll get the same response had you asked for a cyber, spam, or flood bot.

Just go with a more normal and generally acceptible way of doing it and use as I posted before.
