Hey,
Wow this is busy
I suddenly felt the withdraw symptoms of perl and bots, and just HAD to cure them..
Nice makeover, i remember all the arguements on how drab the old forum looked.
Anyway, i just re-installed perl (i did download an old template, white warrior (still at it darkmonkey!) but had some problems....
I hear theres a new owner in town, nice to meet you (if you come around).
Bet half of you dont even remember me!
PS, Do the bots still work? im looking for an old version of my template, seems all the servers that held if before have gone...has anyone got a copy lying around?
cool, im suprised but my bot did all the checks without errors!
but what did:
SERVER ERROR: Authentication Error: No response from passport servers
mean again? the login is legit, turned firewall off for a go but still not letting me in...
Cant believe im asking for support on my own bot, but hey its been a long time
Ive got a horrible feeling that msn has changed alot, and we cnt connect anymore? just downloaded the newest msn.pm and its telling me ive got connection errors, and to check my firewall but its turnt off?
I thought that was the error that could just be ignored and it would work. But I guess I must be wrong.
Try swapping the msn.pm with another as the default is 2.0PR whereas my bot uses 2.0 rev:84 would properly be your best bet. _________________ "Help us, Help you" - BotDepot
Yeh i remember that now, so i left it for 5 mins and its justs gets stuck in a kinda loop on the
Code:
$msn->do_one_loop();
Giving errors such as
Trying to print 'PNG on an undefined socket
etc
P.S concentration on the echobot now, to rule out possible errors in my bot (like there would ever be any!)
EDIT :
Never mind, we have liftoff!
I do however have a little problem you might be able to solve, i was used to doing "perl bot.pl" before to orun the bot, and all the .bat files also state this command..But for some reason, i get an error when i run that command, instaed i only have to type "bot.pl" for it to run. Coul dthis be some kind of update of the activeperl? Also im having problems with the PPM, also not being recognised command...
I am on vista, so maybe thats the problem?
I would guess its a vista problem but i havent got vista so i can't say. I fixed my ppm by reinstalling perl but like you said your on vista so maybe its a problem with vista.
either way i have no idea _________________ "Help us, Help you" - BotDepot
Oh sorry, should have come and edit that....
Its just that i have to go to the root of the ppm.bat then it goes fine...
Only problem now is that MSN seems to have changed or something? Custom emoticons no longer work and im having problems with the latest msn.pm
Something to do with math::BigInt.....but the old version runs great....its like walking down memory lane looking at all the stuff i created
Im all for fixing up msn.pm, ive been looking around and it definatly looks like it needs an overhaul....Im just scared i dont have the expertise and the people who are able, i guess are too busy at the moment (Mojave, eric, matt etc It was the best work in the time, but things like this need basicly constant attention due to msn being so...feverishly updated...So i hope im not offending you lot on that basis)
If you have got a minute or two, some hints and tips on where to start would be helpful...I think in my case it may be better to start from scratch, as looking at the current code, i have no idea on what any of it means so trial and error of the basics could give me an introduction?
One things for sure, intrest has definatly dwindled, i remeber have this site as my homepage and every couple of minutes being able to respond to a new and intresting post....shame all that happens here now is the odd "HELP"...
We have to generate intrest, one of my ideas if having a starter page and the forum as a sub-part, where we have tutorials etc. I believe most of the people who are still here, began together and so learnt perl together....so they could help each other as time passed, with the odd nudge from experts like erics,mojave...etc...I think people dont want to create bots any more because its simply to hard to get it up and going...not giving them chance to be origonal and creative..If there was clearly explained, set out tutorials maybe it would get the basics covers, limit the help posts and allow more people to become involved on the creative site.
Anyway, im probbally jabbering now...its just a shame how much of a contrast there is from a year (or two) ago.
P.S The new admin(noir?), how about you PM me you msn and we have a chat about giving this place its spark back, im readily interested in helping you out.
yea i would be willing to help give the forum a better look and sort everything out... i pretty much live off building forums up such ass PHPBB and IPB so i'll help if im needed.

Welcome back Dazzy
I think the APIs have something to do with it as well, im quite sure if you register a username as a bot and use the APIs, you get benefits such as higher contact list limit. So a lot of people are probably going down that route instead.
I think it would be great if bot depot made a comeback, and i'll help out any way I can.
