I read on another site somewhere that Microsoft acquired Colloquis (formerly Conversagent formerly ActiveBuddy), which means that Microsoft now owns SmarterChild and the lameass patent that Colloquis obtained over the general idea of a chatting robot.
Colloquis probably wasn't ambitious enough to enforce their patent, but under Microsoft's hands, it might almost be a scary thing to program a bot that would become popular enough to compete with the infamous SmarterChild. Microsoft might shoot you down in lawsuits. _________________ Current Site (2008) http://www.cuvou.com/

Doubtful. Microsoft bought out Colloquis ages ago (4 months) and have so far done nothing to enforce the patent. They only bought the company so that they could sell the service to businesses.
