I propose that for a short period a group of volunteers be given deletion powers in an effort to delete spam/junk posts and clear up B-D a bit.
Of course it may be a painfully slow proccess going through all the posts, however now B-D has been revived i'd like to see it a bit cleaner.
(PS: I also propse a cleaning of the commands setion with some topics that are the do the same function be deleted (keeping the most efficent topic)) |

Maybe even prone all the topics? Might be a little drastic but maybe a fresh start is what we need?
Just a suggestion. |

There's a mod that will allow for an old topic "bin," and another mod that allows the topic creator to moderate their own topics. So long as they both work well together, ideally each person could search for the topics they started and dump the irrelevant/old ones into the "bin." This would evenly distribute the work somewhat and then the bin could be emptied after a period of time. | I think that would work perfectly. Clean this place up a bit and get rid of all the spam bots. |

Yeh that should be good. Another thing you could do is just start over (delete everything) but archive all the old posts somewhere so you can still read them, however this is a little drastic but should be quicker than manually reading through everything. _________________ MSN: gavin [at] gavinbrittain [dot] co [dot] uk

No; bad idea. This site is about bots - how to make, how to use, how to error-find. One can hardly say "please search before asking stupid questions" when our forum is basically empty - with all the posts archived elsewhere.
@Matthew Fenton:
I am under the impression that the spam posts have already been deleted - I had a quick look at Chat and there are none there.
@Addict:
"Clean this place up a bit and get rid of all the spam bots."...the spam bots have been dealt with - they won't return .

*cough* edited *cough*
Clearing up the commands would be nice, and maybe a system where they can be tagged would be nice...for instance:
What template does your comamnd use?
[ ] Andromeda
[ ] Maya
[ ] Juggernaut
[ ] AIML
[ ] Generic
What is the main purpose of your command?
[ ] Fun
[ ] Utility (Normal)
[ ] Utility (Staff)
[ ] Chat
[ ] Other
...etc. Then one could search for Fun commands on Andromeda . |

This might seem like a butt load of work ... I just don't know how much ... is it possible to set topics so that once they've gone inactive - say - no replies in a month - they are removed from the board and archived in a bot (glorified search engine - but in keeping with the site theme) ... just the script to automatically generate triggers and replies from threads would be neat to play with ... concordancing, reverse indexes ... nearly a self-learning bot ...
So something like ...
Visitor : what do you know about the MSN module
Bot-Depot Bot : Well, check the board for recent stuff but I remember a thread that started ... and lasted for ... If you'd like to see the thread ... tell me to show it to you.
Visitor : show it to me
Bot-Depot Bot : - regurg thread from archive -
This would be a sweet demo of RiveScript's surpassing of Alice, especially the power of RS objects ...
So I guess the first question would be - can the board be modified to give access to a cgi based bot in addition to the standard search function ... |

Modification of the board isn't necessary. Eric did this once before with a bot he made for me - all that bot needed was access to the mySQL database. _________________ Gadgets | Bot Coding | MMORPG | Ads Pixel | Random Messages | Gift Baskets | Used Electronics | Resident Evil | Hero NBC |

Without database access you can normaly do something similar with RSS feeds if the RSS feed is configurable (i.e. lets you specify the id number of the topic, or range of topics to show.) We'll have to wait for the RSS feeds to come before to much tinkering with that. Or get a bot-depot sanctioned bot access to the database and let it do all the work.
I'm not sure what any of that has to do with RiveScript but the basic idea for the bot is definitly possible. _________________ Eric256

I think he was talking about RiveScript as a means of having a CGI bot that you can chat with, like to ask it about posts on Bot-Depot in a more friendly way than the search function.
i.e. something like http://www.pandorabots.com/pandora/talk?botid=f5d922d97e345aa1 but locally hosted and using RiveScript, or something. _________________ Current Site (2008) http://www.cuvou.com/ |
