Ok, I think I got it now... apparently, the Perl I downloaded was an old version, since I deleted and reinstalled and now it seems to be working... man I wasted so much time... but at least now I have a little bit of an idea of how to deal with Perl modules. Problem is is that it is so complicated... couldn't there just be an easier way??? Like setting it to search in all subdirectories of a folder for modules??? Nevermind, I'm Happy... now I can get on to the real programming
Ok, I know I have been posting a whole bunch, but now that I got it working, how do I impliment codes for word recognition, word memory, and just general commands I want it to do?

The point in this bot is that I was expecting its downloaders to know a little about Perl beforehand, otherwise why not just try another AIM bot template that already has a brain and commands?
But just as a hint: the file handlers/im_in.pl is where the user's messages are received by the bot. You can begin by editing the code there. _________________ Current Site (2008) http://www.cuvou.com/
I could use a little help with this template as well...
I downloaded, set it up, installed the newest version of oscar, and all that. The ONLY thing I changed was screenname and password so it could login.
Well, the buddy icon is not loading. It says it loaded, and there are no errors, but it just has the default AOL buddy icon.
Any ideas? Don't hesitate to ask if you need more information, I don't know what else to give you.
Don't worry about that. Buddy icons are a fun feature but don't rely on them (my Leviathan bots have proper buddy icon setting things, and it works a lot of the time, but sometimes I too see the default AIM icon or just no icon at all). _________________ Current Site (2008) http://www.cuvou.com/
so this is an intermittant problem without a solution?
I wasn't worried about it, I still plan on using the template, but I'd rather have no buddy icon at all than the default one.
If the bot's screenname is relatively new, you may need to sign on to AIM with it and clear its buddy icon. Newer screennames have that AIM icon by default (or something like that). Older screennames never had that problem. _________________ Current Site (2008) http://www.cuvou.com/
