I think the best used chat would be a page that refreshed every 2 seconds or so, just plain text and had a link from the portal like downloads ect.

Actually, its not. Naming conventions (However odd it may sound) dictate that one gigabyte is 1000MB. one gibabyte however is 1024MB.

That set aside I think there should be one common IRC room or newsgroup (Which would be pretty neat, too) for MSNP people to share new discoveries. We all know that one forum (Hypothetic) just doesnt cut it anymore. I've been looking around, and if I want to make something public I pretty much need to post on 3 or 4 different forums do I want it to get at least some attention.

C'mon people, stop everything from falling apart!

Maybe we should get one of those java irc client things so that newbies can easily get in, as the vast majority of them do not seem to have real clients. I personally prefer IRC to forums for most communication. In IRC, you can get a much better idea of the kind of person you're talking to, and if you have a question, you can get answers much quicker, provided that there are helpful people in the channel.
From what I read the majority of people here use firefox. If you do and don't have an IRC client I suggest getting ChatZilla, the Mozilla IRC client. Once set up, the bot-depot chatroom can be accessed in as little as a single click each time you start the browser.
If everyone joins the channel for the time that they're browsing the forums, or even the whole time they're on the net, everyone will get to know each other better, the channel will be populated and people will be more likely to want to join.
As for having bots in the channel, I'm all for it, as long as they are command bots, and not chatterbots. There was a chatterbot in here a little while ago that came out with a random comment each time someone said something. Cute at first, but quickly annoying.
So lets all give it a try, and not just a once off, it'll take a while to catch on, but it'll be worth it.

omg, what is with gmail?! The conspiracy must end. Sure, gmail is probably great, but who uses e-mail anymore anyway? If you're going to use gmail, anyway, at least use it for human reasons.
