Closed IM services like AIM and MSN don't even come close to comparing to the benefits of open services like Jabber. The quality of the protocol is leagues ahead of any others. This is why businesses favor Jabber over anything else.

You can't judge the quality of a service simply on the number of people that use it and how many flashy features (DP and emoticons, come to mind) it has.

Sure I program bots for AIM and MSN, but that's purely because of the great hordes that use them. But if my bots didn't require great numbers of users (AWE and Blabber, for example), I probably wouldn't even bother with MSN or AIM.

You probably should have said that then. MSN is definitly NOT the best of all time. Its a pain and owned by a company that doesn't want to share the protocool with anyone. It doesn't allow for multiple servers to connect to each other and let their users talk to each other. It doesn't do a huge number of things and its not open source.

No, your point was that MSN is the best and it isn't.

As for number of users, that's like saying IE is the best browser of all time forever and ever because it has 90% of the market. In fact, it is the worst browser I know of.

You gotta admit, MSN <*lazy*>is the best IM of all time. I use Trillian Pro sometimes, nobody ever sticks to just one IM.  <_<

He even underlined it. If that's not his point, he must be speaking some weird language that looks like English but has a totally different meaning to the words.

Anyhow, if MSN supported HTML-text messages (like AIM), I would like it a LOT more... because their plaintext system is annoying (it's kind of dumb that you need MsgPlus to see and send multiple text colors <_< )

Ok, maybe it isnt THE best. It could use some minor edits for color and html, as Cer said, and maybe some other stuff.

Theo, I owe you one.
