Ok, this poll has a purpose. It is to show that your computer has a lot of memory and you should be taking advantage of it.

I see so many commands and other code where each time they are run, they open a file or several files, load data from those files, get a random line or count the lines or whatever, then close the file and let go of the data they read in. This is inefficient.

Why not read the data in once when your bot starts, store it in memory, use it when needed and NOT delete it from memory, so that it is there ready the next time it is needed.

Let's say you have a 1000 line Yomama joke database stored in a file. If each line is 100 characters, that is 100K of memory. Can your computer spare that much?? Razz

This issue is even more extreme when you are opening, reading and closing a file every single time a message comes in to determine if the username is an admin, like the old wiredbots code did. Fortunately, Andromeda and other new bots have fixed this.
