I'm not sure how many people still use a modem *gasps* but 15k per avatar by 15 posts per page adds up. The typical avatar limit is 10k which I've adjusted our settings to. I'm sure if you take your avatar into Photoshop or Gimp and save it as a GIF and play with the settings/colors you'll get it to a manageable size. If not, post it here as an attachment and I'll size it for you.
