Whenever the Jabber bot I made tries to connect to the AIM gateway, it connects and gets the list of people that are online, then it immediately disconnects. This also happens if I connect to the account myself. I'm thinking it might be that there are too many people on its roster using AIM (about 120). Can anyone either verify my suspicions or give some way to get it to connect (preferably not getting rid of people on the list)? Or should I direct my question elsewhere? (Jabber forum here doesn't look too lively...)

This is an old topic, and nobody's ever replied to it, so here's a response for you:

AIM's current buddylist limit is 200 contacts (you can check your own in the registry, HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/America Online/AOL Instant Messenger/Buddy -> MaxBuddies)

A common reason that a Perl script would sign on to AIM, and then sign off, is because of a random error in Net::OSCAR. If you're using Net::OSCAR, browse the forum for information on the error. If not, see if you can't find the error.

I have no idea why AIM would do the same thing when signing on manually though. Maybe something was corrupted on your account, maybe a screwed up directory entry or something, and each time you sign on it downloads that information from the server and causes AIM to crash. If that's the case, your best bet would be to contact AIM about it.
